Rymot Local is free and needs no account. Download it from the download page — it suggests the right file for your system.

§01Windows

  1. 01Run the .exe installer. It's a per-user install — no admin rights needed.
  2. 02If Windows Defender SmartScreen appears, click More info, then Run anyway. Windows shows this for installers from newer publishers; it is not a sign of a problem.
  3. 03Rymot Local appears in your system tray and starts tracking.

Requires Windows 10 (1903+) or Windows 11, 64-bit.

§02macOS

  1. 01Open the .dmg and drag Rymot Local into Applications.
  2. 02The first launch is blocked because the app isn't notarized by Apple yet: right-click the app in Applications, choose Open, then Open again. You only do this once.
  3. 03Rymot Local appears in the menu bar and starts tracking.

Requires macOS 11 Big Sur or later — one universal build for Apple Silicon and Intel.

§03Linux

Use the AppImage unless you have a reason not to. It runs on Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, openSUSE and other distributions, installs nothing, and updates itself in place. Make it executable and run it: chmod +x on the file, then open it.

The .deb is a system package with application-menu integration for Debian, Ubuntu or Mint. Install it with sudo dpkg -i followed by the filename; if dependencies are missing, run sudo apt -f install. Because it writes to system directories, each update asks for your password.
