03Focus, protected

Block the distraction. Keep the focus.

Set any site or app to Ask, Block or Allow. When a focus session starts, Rymot enforces the list, starts your sound and opens your workspace — then puts everything back when you finish.

Try it — change a rule, start a session, open each oneAbout the website blocker →

09Questions

Asked often.

Does it work completely offline?

Yes. All tracking, classification, and insights run fully on your machine, and your activity database never syncs anywhere. The only things that touch the network are the update check and optional anonymous crash diagnostics — both can be turned off, and the app works indefinitely without an internet connection.

Does it capture screenshots?

Not in the current version. Local session screenshots — for your private review only — are planned as an opt-in premium feature. When it ships, all images will be stored exclusively on your device and never uploaded anywhere.

Does it record keystrokes or what I type?

No. Rymot tracks keyboard and mouse activity events to detect whether you are active or idle — the same technique used by every screen-saver and lock screen. It never records the content of what you type, the keys pressed, or clipboard contents.

Will it slow down my PC?

Minimal impact. The tracking agent polls activity at 1-minute intervals and is designed to stay below 1% CPU. RAM usage is under 60 MB. It runs as a lightweight background process.

Where exactly is my data stored?

In a local SQLite database in your user data directory. On Windows: %APPDATA%/rymot. On Linux: ~/.local/share/rymot. You can open, inspect, or delete it at any time.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Full database backup and restore is built in (Settings → Data) — the backup is a standard SQLite file you can open with any SQLite browser. CSV/JSON export of specific ranges is on the roadmap.

Does it track which websites I visit?

Only the domain — never page content or what you type — and only with the Rymot browser extension, which tells the app which site is in the foreground. Rymot classifies each domain (290+ are built in, plus your own rules), shows websites next to apps on the Dashboard, and keeps all of it on this computer. Private-browsing windows are never recorded.

Can it block websites and apps while I focus?

Yes. Set each site or app to Ask, Block or Allow. During a focus session a blocked site shows Rymot's block page and a blocked app shows a dialog; both open again by themselves when the session ends. Websites need the Rymot browser extension (version 2); apps are handled by the desktop app. Nothing is blocked outside a focus session, and overriding a block is off unless you turn it on.

What is a focus environment?

A rule that sets up your workspace when a focus session starts: it opens the apps and links you chose, plays a sound (rain, ocean, wind, brown or pink noise, or your own file), and closes the apps on your close list after a few seconds' notice you can skip. When the session ends the sound stops and closed apps come back if you asked. Everything it did is listed under "What Rymot did".

Is there any AI, and does it leave my computer?

AI is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, a short summary of your day is written on your own computer through Ollama, and every sentence cites the moments it came from. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does it recognize VS Code, Figma, Slack and similar apps?

Yes. Rymot ships with a built-in registry of 500+ developer, design, communication, and entertainment apps — plus 290+ websites — all classified automatically on first launch. You can override anything from the Applications page.

How does focus detection work?

Rymot uses rule-based analysis — not ML. It measures uninterrupted active time, application switching frequency, and idle periods to estimate focus quality. You can also start explicit focus sessions (Pomodoro, Deep Work, Flow State) for more precise tracking.

Can I delete all my data?

Yes. Uninstall the app, then delete the data folder in your user directory. There is nothing on any server to delete.

Know how you actually focus. Free, on your machine, in two minutes.
